Granddad – Hiller Fahey Byrum Sr. the original “Cottonman”. Among the many life lessons from this man. One of the best was how to grow a crop of cotton… any crop really. We didn’t have the GMO cotton we have today. There were hours of hand weeding and iron cultivation to combat the weeds. And the worms were and still are tough! In the 70’s, here in Chowan county we were able to eradicate the boll weevil making cotton economically feasible to commercially produce. Cotton and peanuts have paid the bills on the farm for many years. Through this website I hope to create a profitable small farm business to sustain many generations to come.
